When should I book my newborn session?
Contacting me early in your pregnancy is a great way to start the booking process and clear up any questions you may have! I offer a limited number of photography sessions every month, so I am more likely to schedule you in if you book in advance. I do take last minute bookings, so if you just had your baby, please feel free to contact me and I will try to fit you in!
When is the best time for newborn photography?
Newborn photography is best taken 4 to 10 days after birth. This is when newborns are extra sleepy and they love to be curled up in sweet newborn poses. As they get past the 2 weeks mark they are much more alert and not so bendy or sleepy, making it much more challenging.
Do you provide newborn props?
Yes! I have a growing collection of props including wraps, hats, headbands, backdrop blankets, etc. I have a very soft, warm and organic style that highlights the natural beauty of your new little one. The images that draw me in the most are neutral coloured with simple props that complement the image rather than distract from your newborn. I want your baby to be the main focus of your images. I avoid bright colours and patterns as much as possible because I find they take away from the purity of newborns. Neutral colours are timeless and they will last years and years to come. You’ve taken the time to invest in images of your newborn and you want those images to last for generations.
What can I do to prepare for my newborn session?
Prior to your session, I will email you my detailed newborn photography preparation guide to help you prepare your baby, yourself and your house before I arrive.
How do you choose the photos that you provide to us? Can you provide the unedited images?
The photos provided to my clients are chosen by me based on the shots that I feel best represents the client, the atmosphere, my style, and the technical quality of the image. I do not provide my client with unedited images, as this does not depict an accurate product of my business and is not a part of my session packages.
What can I do to prepare for my family session and what should we wear?
Prior to your session, I will email you my detailed family photography preparation guide. This will go over what you should expect the day of the session, location ideas, time of shoot, etc. A ‘what to wear’ guide is also included.
When is the best time for maternity photography?
Maternity photography is best taken between 32 to 36 weeks of pregnancy.
Do you have a studio?
Yes! My studio is located in Kanata. You can view photos of it here.
What equipment do you use?
My camera body is a Canon EOS 5D Mark II. My favourite lens (and the one I use the majority of the time) is the 35mm f/1.4. I also use the 100mm f/2.8 L macro lens for photos of itty bitty toes and hands.
When is the best time for outdoor family photography?
Outdoor family photography can take place between May and October. The ideal time to shoot outdoors is in the evening. I avoid shooting in the afternoon because the sun causes harsh lighting and unflattering shadows. I love shooting in the golden hours before sunset. There always seems to be an extra bit of magic captured during this time.
Are Gift Certificates available?
Yes, gift certificates can be purchased for specific packages or in the denomination of your choice. This makes a great baby shower gift!
When will I receive my images?
Within 2-3 weeks of your session, you will receive your full photo collection through a secure online download. I always like to post a few photos in advance on my blog or facebook page to give you a sneak peek.
